Abstract
This paper examines the readiness of the Nigerian Government towards meeting the 2020 Millennium Goals for secondary school education in Africa. The aim is to examine the policy framework of the federal government in the training and development of secondary school operators and teachers in the country based on the recommendations by the UNESCO on quality assurance. The study discusses the universal elements for evaluating the academic standards in secondary school across the world. Using the historical review alongside the content analysis approach, the paper examines the academic activities of secondary schools in Nigeria. Based on the findings, the paper concludes that the Nigerian government is yet to comply with the universal guidelines on teaching and learning in secondary school and colleges. The paper therefore recommends that the Nigerian government should put a policy framework in place to train secondary school operators and teachers with a view to meeting the Millennium Goal for Development in schools and colleges in the country.
