Abstract

This paper evaluated the influences of the use of BlackBerry and other smart phones on Nigerian youths particularly undergraduates in tertiary institutions. It focused on two universities – Bowen University, Iwo, and University of Ilorin, Ilorin. It adopted both quantitative and qualitative methods using both questionnaire and FGD as major instruments. Findings showed that maintenance of image, social interaction, information access, contacting parents, dependency, maintenance of privacy, good time management, effective communication, unhindered access to browsing were some of the benefits that undergraduate students derived from using BlackBerry and other smart phones. The study concluded that these devices have significantly become useful with great educational value to the students.
