Abstract
This analysis looked at how Artificial Intelligence is an integral part in the coverage and dissemination of health-related issues by Daily Trust and Leadership newspapers. Using a library approach, the papers’ rationale is to identify AI subfields that can be deployed in the coverage of health-related issues by Daily Trust and Leadership newspapers and to unravel how these AI subfields can be integrated in the coverage of health issues by Daily Trust and Leadership newspapers. Technological Determinism Theory underpinned the study to the extent that technology in any given society defines its nature and it is the driving force of culture in a society. This analysis identified machine learning, computer vision, and planning, scheduling, and optimisation as AI subfields that can be integrated in the reportage of health issues by Daily Trust and Leadership newspapers as in the case of other world newspapers. The paper posited that these AI subfields can be used by Daily Trust and Leadership newspapers to boost the engagement interest of the readers, simulate human vision and learn to recognise the origin of images, detect fake news as well as to organise data into a readable story. The paper further confirmed that these AI tools help the selected newspapers to plan, publish, and refine their health-related stories. In conclusion, Artificial Intelligence is a technology of immense benefit to journalism profession in the area of coverage and research. This implies that the selected newspapers have to install AI technology and train their staff on how to use the AI subfields in the reportage of health issues.
