This paper presents a critical evaluation of the issues involved in the choice and practice of case research in the Nigerian context. It notes that, though Nigerian communication researchers are no strangers to the case study approach, they nevertheless evince some measure of confusion about the nature, power and limits of case research. The paper examines the problems of conceptualisation, operationalisation, testability and generalisation involved in case research. It argues for specific solutions to these problems that underline the appropriateness and viability of the case study approach in the Nigerian milieu.
