Abstract
The existing, dominant conclusion of empirical conversation and public discourse on rural-urban imbalance in media coverage in Nigeria is that of rural neglect and super-imposition of political and urban issues over rural development issues. However, this study interrogated this conclusion by analyzing the programmes aired on BCOS television and radio stations in Oyo State and correlating such with the opinions of people in five selected rural communities in the state. Analysis of broadcast media schedule and other documents, and responses from 100 respondents selected from Alapafon, Odeyale, Akinkemi, Manga, and Elese Erin villages in Ona Ara Local Government Area of Oyo State showed that the stations cover and showcase rural development issues and projects and have some programmes for the enjoyment of rural dwellers.
