Abstract
Information plays a vital role in the life of individual. When people do not have the information or knowledge, they feel they can use for curing ailment, mortality and morbidity becomes the results and grievous mistakes occur both in the management and treatment of any sickness or disease. The study examined sources and utilization of information on pelvic inflammatory disease among undergraduate students in selected higher institutions in Anambra state, how the students’ source and utilize the information on the disease. The theoretical framework for the study was Theory of Human Attitude and theory of information provision and capacity utilization. The number of the population of the study is 61,311, gotten from the registry department of each institution, from which a sample of 397 is drawn using Taro Yamane’s formulae. The survey research design was adopted for this work. The purposive sampling technique was used to study 384 as the sample size. Proportionate allocation procedure was used to determine the number of persons to be studied in each institution. Findings show that books were the most popular sources used by the respondents followed by face-to-face discussion, scholarly journals and the least was review articles. The study then recommended that Nigerian government and NGOs should sponsor monitoring projects on PID and packaged the information appropriately in line with the interest and belief of the user so that the awareness creation should be maximized forbreaking the chain of transmission.
