Abstract

Many broadcast stations in Nigeria have acquired the DOT Com as part of their names which indicates the opening of a website where information can be posted. This is a step towards webcasting. It simply means broadcasting of messages over the Internet. Webcasting is one  of  the recent innovations that has brought new  experiences and challenges to the broadcast industry in Nigeria. But with the level of infrastructural development, poverty and lack of cyberspace, can the country cope with this new trend in broadcasting? This is the main thrust of this paper. It tries to  explain the concept of webcasting as well as  outlining its implications to developing nations,  particularly Nigeria. It adopts a qualitative approach in examining the concepts of globalization and webcasting, including an x-ray of how Nigeria is contending with the innovation of webcasting. It recommends among others, that there should be massive training of Nigerian broadcasters on how to make use of webcasting in their profession.
