Abstract

This study examines how world information order remedies the inequality in the flow of information in the agricultural sector. Due to the growing rumours in the agricultural sector bordering on fake seeds, fake news of government intervention and security issues, a decline in the adoption of meaningful agricultural innovation that could lead to development and grow the country’s ailing economy is imminent. Methods of fake news detection, newspaper entries on agricultural fake news propagation and its impact on development as well as how this fake news can be put on leash in order enhance the communication process and remove redundancy in the system were reviewed. This study adopts a qualitative survey research method to generate the information necessary to investigate agricultural fake news spread in Nigeria. It was found that due to the propagation of fake news, farmers have developed communication reception hesitancy. This proves the potency of the theory of information frictions adopted for this study. This study recommends among others, the adoption of communication strategies, establishing honest and respectful dialogue.
