The growing Internet communication technology has attracted studies from scholars globally, but very little work has been done on the contextual beliefs in unsolicited Internet bulk messages now known as ‘Spam’. The aim of this study is to examine the contextual beliefs shared by the participants in the correspondence. Two territorial districts in Ogun State namely Ogun-East (Ijebu-Ode) and Ogun-Central (Abeokuta) were purposively sampled. Sixty unsolicited bulk messages were randomly selected from this pool. The data collected were analyzed using Odebunmi’s (2006) Contextual model. The findings revealed that 90% participants in bulk messages share specific common contextual beliefs about the topic or subject matter of the discourse, choice of referent or references and socio-cultural situations involved in the correspondence. This study will promote effective teaching and learning of any aspect of English Language at all levels of education.
