Abstract

It may be safe to say that the world is transiting, or indeed continually evolving. The need for social processes to adapt to the emerging phenomenon is growing stronger, more than ever. Growths in science and technology have added value to human existence, but have also driven humanity precariously towards a more vicious, deadly and destructive character. The character of war has changed for the worst and the pressure is on the media to alter its old ethical values. Specifically, there is the need to revisit objections against use of gory image.  Anchored on the utilitarian theory, this study investigates contemporary views regarding use of gory pictures. The study finds that there is a gradual shift away from the traditional views as the non use of gory images is causing more harm than good. The study recommends a more liberal approach to use of gory images as an antidote against acts of savagery and war.
