Abstract
This paper is concerned with graphic communication for development purposes. It attempts to address the communication gaps existing between the graphic encoder and other members of the media team during the media production process, which often result in ineffective graphic messages and communication failure. Specifically, this paper introduces the reader to the need for, and the problem militating against, the production of effective graphic communication in Nigeria. Also, it sheds necessary and sufficient light on the types of uncertainties that occur in the use of graphic communication to convey development messages. And, it copiously discusses the reality of the participation, and intervention of the graphic encoder in the media production process using the Bowers Action Research Model. The paper ends with the need to embed the graphic encoder in all the crucial areas of the several stages in the media production process in order to produce effective graphic communication.
